Order Speciality Contacts With Harvey & Lewis

For many people, contacts are integral in helping them to see properly. In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 45 million people wear contact lenses in the United States alone. This means that the need for fast, functional, and accurate contact lenses is extremely high. At Harvey & Lewis, we are proud to provide Connecticut clients with the contacts that they need in a timely manner. We also offer special rebates and have national accounts with the best contact lens manufacturers in the industry.

Contact Insertion and Removal

Inserting contact lenses can be both stressful and scary, especially if it is your first time. Luckily, if you follow a few simple steps, you can have safe insertion and removal techniques down pat in no time! The steps are outlined in detail below:

Insertion

Wash your hands with non-perfumed, anti-bacterial soap, and then dry.

Complete a "lens check". Put the lens on the tip of your finger, and hold it up in good lighting. Ensure that the contact lenses are in good condition, and are not dirty.

If your contact lenses have digits (1,2,3), make sure they aren't backwards.

Use one finger to pull up your upper eyelid, and the other fingers to pull down your lower eyelid. Then, look upward and place the lens in your eye, slowly releasing your eyelid. Immediately close your eyes, so that the lens can resettle comfortably.

Removal

Wash your hands with non-perfumed, anti-bacterial soap, and then dry.

Look up, and use your index finger to touch the lower edge of the lens.

Slide the lens down to the lower, white part of your eyes. Then, squeeze the lens with your index finger and thumb in order to remove it.

Once the lenses are removed, you can throw away daily disposable contacts. However, if you are using monthly contact lenses, it is important to make sure that they don't dry out. Therefore, make sure to clean them and put them in contact solution.

Wear Schedule

Your contact lens wear schedule will depend on what type of contact lenses you are using. For example, if you are wearing daily disposable contact lenses, you will need to dispose of the lenses at the end of each day. Otherwise, the best thing to do when purchasing new contact lenses is to speak with your provider or with a professional to ask about what wear schedule would be appropriate. Some lenses can be left in for a number of hours, while others must be taken out more often. If a schedule is not followed, the overwear outcomes include inflammation of the cornea, redness, swelling, varying degrees of lens intolerance, light sensitivity, corneal edema, etc.

Caring for Your Eyes

Understanding how to insert and remove your contact lenses, as well as what an appropriate wear schedule would be for the type of lenses you are using, are both important things when it comes to caring for your eyes. This is because consequences of not utilizing contact lenses the right way could include eye diseases, infections, and other common conditions like dry eyes.
