Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our frames? Take a look at the most commonly asked questions we get below, and do not hesitate to contact us if you still have questions or concerns you'd like to address!

  • How often should you get an eye exam?

We suggest coming in for your eye exam annually, since most routine eye exams are covered by your insurance. Your eyes help with more than just vision; they tell doctors a lot about your overall health.  Things like age, medical conditions, and environment can affect the health of your eyes and should be checked once per year. However, in some cases, you may need to be seen by your eye doctor sooner.  A few other reasons eye exams are important are because:

    • Eye examinations offer prevention and vision protection.
    • Vision checks offer awareness of changes in your prescription.
    • Eye exams check for eye diseases with and without symptoms.
    • Yearly exams help identify overall health concerns.
    • These examinations can find eye diseases in the early stages, when treatment to prevent vision loss is most effective.
    • Our eyes are very sensitive, and they often show signs of certain illnesses/conditions before they become apparent elsewhere. By having a comprehensive eye exam, your optometrist may be able to determine if you are at risk for diseases, such as diabetes. It can also determine if you have conditions such as brain tumors, or if you have suffered an impairment after a stroke.
  • How long does an eye exam take?

While the length of an eye exam is dependent on the individual's unique circumstances, most patients can expect their eye exam to last approximately 30 minutes.

  • Should I wear my contacts to an eye exam?

Patients should wear contact lenses to their eye exam so that the doctor can assess the fit. In addition, we ask our patients to please bring their glasses in as well. This can help the doctor test whether or not your current vision prescription is helping you see as clearly as possible.
